The Master of Accounting study program once again organized a seminar themed “SDG: from Business Accountability to Spiritual Journey” held on Friday, October 14, 2022. This event was carried out hybrid (online and offline).
The seminar invited practitioners and academics as speakers: Sigit Kurnianto as Executive Director of the IAI East Java; Prof. Basuki as chairman of the IAI East Java; Prof. Sujoko Efferin as academician; Dr. Susan Sutejo and Dr. Wiyono Pontjo Haryo as the owner of the Synergy Ultima Nobilus Accounting Services consultant.
Sigit Kurnianto began the event with materials on accounting to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Meanwhile, Prof. Basuki, as the head of IAI East Java, discussed SDGs as part of accountability, where Prof. Basuki explained the impacts caused by business activities that could cause natural damage and connected the discussion about accounting and these business activities. Companies not only pay attention to profit but also have to think about the planet, people, social environment, and nature.
Afterward, Prof. Sujoko continued the event by explaining spirituality in the SDGs. He explained that being aware of greed, behavior, and ambition will lead to fear and anger; for that, how we manage it depends on our way of thinking. Dr. Susan continued the material, stressing that if you do not have a good mindset for people, the planet, or profit, it will not be helpful for accountability, SDGs, and accounting. Dr. Susan also explained the Accounting Service Office (KJA) in terms of business partners and KJA’s response to the SDGs. Finally, the event was concluded by Dr. Wiyono Pontjo H’s session, who explained the role of KJA towards SDGs, where the role of KJA towards SDGs is not only to take care of profit but also to people, nature, and others.
From this seminar, participants are expected to understand that business practice does not only emphasize profit alone but how business has an impact on society and the planet.
