Leadership Club Pasca Ubaya again held a webinar using business practitioners in a seminar held on Tuesday, 27/7/2021. This time the speaker was Denny William, a millennial born in Tanjungpinang in 1992. Denny completed his IT Department studies in 2014. After two years working in Jakarta, in 2016, he had the opportunity to work in Surabaya as one of the Area Managers at J&T Express East Java. In March 2018, he decided to leave J&T Express and start from scratch, running an online business.
The online business almost closed because most people considered it difficult to succeed and needed more money to pay team salaries. After one year of survival, I finally saw hope in 2019. Along with the development, in 2020, the online business was transformed into the GII COMMERCE group, a group of young people who do online business together. In 2020, GII Commerce also expanded to four countries in Southeast Asia. Denny shared how he experienced both failures and successes so that GII Commerce today can employ more than 140 employees who are dominated by young people with more than 30 stores online. The uniqueness built by Denny is that all of his products are made initially in Indonesia, so by expanding to four countries in ASEAN, Denny can fly Indonesian products abroad. In addition, the organizational culture built since the beginning at GII Commerce is human resource empowerment, where the CEO becomes a discussion partner, and HR is given the authority to determine products to sell them. Denny’s experience sharing can inspire students to start acting with the resources that exist in themselves today. Always success for Denny William and GII Commerce.
